I think this was the longest ab I ever had in my rope access career - about 90metres. Here I'm carrying out MPI and UT inspection on one of the nodes. Some of the welding was interesting to say the least - I found a couple of welds where unused rods had been stuffed in and then welded over the top.
Also found that the locals had developed a different, non-scaffold access method. At the bottom right of the picture you can see a cage. They would weld one like this together on the ground using bits of scrap, then get lifted up in it by a crane. After tacking it to the structure, the crane would go away leaving the welder to it!
